W6N: Evie Gallagher to miss France clash through suspension

EVIE GALLAGHER will miss Scotland’s Six Nations round two clash against France in La Rochelle this coming Saturday after being issued with a one match suspension after being sent-off during last Saturday’s round one win over Wales at Hive Stadium.
The Scotland No 8 appeared before an independent Disciplinary Committee yesterday [Monday] evening via video link having initially been issued with a yellow-card for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.20e (a player must not drop their weight onto an opponent or target the lower limbs). That was then upgraded to a 20-minute red-card by by Ian Tempest, the game’s Foul Play Review Officer (FPRO).
The Disciplinary Committee – chaired by Marcello D'Orey (Portugal), joined by former international player Stefan Terblanche (South Africa) and former referee Val Toma (Romania) – upheld the red card and by applying World Rugby's sanctioning provisions, have determined that the low-range entry point of two weeks/matches was appropriate. In light of the player accepting she committed an act of foul play as well as other mitigating factors, they have applied the maximum 50 percent reduction in sanction, thus reducing the final sanction to one week/match.
The outcome of any hearings, as well as a full written decision, will be hosted within the discipline section of the Six Nations Rugby website.
