IT seems hard to believe that George Horne had no competing offers on the table but, regardless, it serves as a fine piece of business for Glasgow to tie down the scrum-half for at least a further two seasons.

It caps off a stellar few days for Horne who on Saturday night became Warriors' all-time leading try scorer when he landed his 55th touchdown against the Emirates Lions to move one ahead of DTH van der Merwe.

Horne joined Glasgow in 2015 and, barring a short loan spell at London-Scottish, has been with the club ever since, becoming increasingly prominent since Franco Smith became head coach and supplanting Ali Price as the first choice at No.9.

At 29 years old, Horne could yet play for a further five or six years should he stay injury-free and he was happy to commit the next two – with the possibility of a third – to Warriors, joking that if they hadn't offered him an extension he'd have retired to become a PE teacher.

He said: "I’m really proud to represent this club. I love living in Glasgow, playing in Glasgow, the people, the team mates that you get to play with, world class players, just good men.

"Last year was obviously special and it would be daft to look elsewhere. I’m just buzzing to be staying on. It’s hard to say [if he had thoughts of playing elsewhere] because you never know what's going to come up.

"But for me nothing did come up – so it was this or retire and become a PE teacher! I was happy enough with that. I love playing here and I hope I show that when I pull on the jersey. I can’t wait to continue for the rest of this year and then the next couple of years as well."

Horne remains driven by the possibility of winning more silverware to add to last year's URC triumph.

He added: "Definitely – that’s why we all play the game, to win trophies. Getting a taste of that last year was unbelievable but nobody’s satisfied. As soon as we got that feeling you just want it even more, you crave it and it’s something as a club we’ve said we’re not going to just be happy with what we did last year.

"We want to push on in Europe as well as the league and just try to keep getting better as players, as a team and as people. Franco’s done an unbelievable job since he’s come in, the culture he’s created, it’s more than just about winning on a weekend, it’s about improving as a club.

"It’s something that’s great to be a part of and we’re definitely looking to get more of that feeling from last year. I’m as competitive as they come, I want to try to win everything. But anyone will say that; it’s easy to say, 'yeah we’d love to go as far as we can in Europe and in the league'. But we know that’s bloody hard. So it’s not so much unfinished business, more just what can we do as a team?

"I think we’ve got the players, we’ve got the backroom staff, the coaching staff, the set up here, we’ve got what we need to go on and achieve that. So let’s see what happens."
