SEAN EVERITT has described Emiliano Boffelli's return from injury as a 'miracle' and admitted he wasn't sure the player would ever recover sufficiently to play again.

The Argentinian back-three player hasn't featured since April after twice undergoing back surgery but will line up for Edinburgh against Zebre tomorrow night (Friday).

The head coach said: "It's great to have him back. He's such an important member of the team, whether it's on the field or off the field.

"He brings energy about himself, because he's so positive, and obviously what he's been through. I think for him it's really good that he's back on the field. And obviously he adds a different dimension and he's got a really good skill set which suits our game model.

"To be honest with you, we weren't 100 per cent sure [if he would ever play again], just because of the nature of the injury. And then obviously the relapse. Then lastly, if you could have just seen the pain that this guy was in when we were in South Africa last year.

"So, it's a bit of a miracle for me. And I'm really happy for the guy after what he has been through.

"The surgery was done here and we helped him with his earlier rehabilitation, then he was able to go home for a month, where he was under the watchful eye of the Argentinian medical staff.

"Obviously people when they're going through that adversity need to be close to their loved ones, and his family, so we allowed him that opportunity and he returned to the club in the middle of January and has made heaps of progress.

"We've always supported Boff through these difficult times. You don't always know the consequences of these injuries – it could have been a career-threatening injury, but obviously it's not now, So I think he's just relieved and happy to be back on the field."

Boffelli's contract is up in the summer but Everitt says no decision has been made on the player's future.

He added: "We haven't turned down an opportunity to renew him as yet, but we need to see how Boff goes. And for himself, he needs to see how he gets through the next couple of weeks as well.

"We haven't discussed any contracts with Boff at this stage. We want to see how we go over the next few weeks – and it suits both parties."

Less positive was the news on Ben Muncaster who misses this weekend's game with a concussion after only just returning from an ankle injury.

Everitt explained: "Unfortunately there was an incident in training – it was just a collision. There was nothing untoward in the incident, it was pretty much just two guys running into each other and unfortunately Ben came off worse.

"We're going to have to handle him with caution. He's been through a lot over the last 12 months. He did fail his HIA yesterday anyway, which paved the way for Tom Currie to come in, who's a specialist No. 8 and has shown great form this year.

"If Ben can pass his HIA 3 over the weekend or on Monday or Tuesday, there's no reason why he couldn't be in the mix [with Scotland] the following week – it just depends how they see it."
