Jack Mann signs for Gloucester on three-year deal, reports indicate

JACK MANN appears set to join English Premiership side Gloucester next season on a three-year deal, according to The Daily Telegraph newspaper. The 25-year-old No 8 has been a breakthrough star for Glasgow Warriors this season, banishing two years of injury frustration to produce a series of abrasive performances during the last two months to earn selection to Gregor Townsend’s Six Nations training squad. But he has evidently caught the eye south of the Border as well, and has been lined up for a move to Kingsholm as a replacement for Zach Mercer, who is joining Toulon next season.
Mann, who is originally from East Lothian, and who cut his teeth in senior rugby with Edinburgh Accies and Heriot’s – is a former Scotland Under-20s cap and was a member of the Edinburgh Rugby academy for two season. He made his Glasgow Warriors debut in December 2022, but then faced a nearly 24-month lay-off with a serious concussion then an ankle injury before eventually playing his second game for the club in late November 2024.
Glasgow Warriors have not commented on this story yet. There will be a sense of frustration amongst Warriors supporters that the player is now moving on so quickly after being supported – and handed new contracts – during the long lay-off at the start of his pro career. However, these are straitened times in Scottish Rugby. Mann got his run in the team because the now fit again Jack Dempsey was injured, and with Sione Vailanu also due back soon following a lengthy injury absence, there is a limit to how many contract renewals can be offered. Other back-rows on the Warriors books at the moment are: Matt Fagerson, Gregor Brown, Rory Darge, Euan Ferrie, Ally Miller, Henco Venter and Macenzzie Duncan, plus academy prospects Archie McMichael, Jonny Morris and Rory Purvis.

In a press briefing last Wednesday, Mann was asked about his future with Glasgow Warriors and replied that: “We’re in negotiations at the minute. That will all come to light in the next month or so. I would certainly like to stay, Glasgow's an amazing club.
“They have built to winning the URC last year, which was gutting to not be a part of. At the same time, it’s still amazing to be a part of the squad, even if I wasn’t there in person.”
Mann will follow a similar path to the West Country as Warriors team-mate Tom Jordan has already committed to, with the utility back having signed for nearby Bristol Bears next season.
