Portugal player ratings vs Scotland:

15. Simao Bento, 6

Bento crossed shortly before the Portuguese opener but was called back for a foot in touch. He kept the boots of Hastings, Jordan and McDowall in check but could've done more offensively to impress in a team that created moments of real excitement in the back three.

14. Raffaele Storti, 7

Storti played a full 80 minutes on the wing, using his chemistry with the magical Marques and a burst of pace to snatch a try. The Stade Francais wide man was one of the bright sparks for Simon Mannix's squad made up mostly of part-timers.

13. Jose Lima, 4

12. Tomas Appleton, (c) 4

A fairly ineffective and quiet day for both of Portugal's centres. Most of the backs' memorable work skipped their unit with Marques and Storti showing their quality in the big moments.

11. Lucas Martins, 5

Martins had his moments out wide, including a fine read to intercept a clever Darcy Graham offload. However, he struggled to have a real impact going forward for the visitors and was taken off shortly after the break.

10. Domingos Cabral, 6

Playing second fiddle to the brilliance of his nine, Cabral arguably could've had a try early on had referee Takehito Namekawa not controversially called the play back. A solid game from the 9-10 duo, but Cabral was outshone by the brilliance of Marques.

9. Samuel Marques, 8

The star man for the Lobos, Marques ran the show with some inventive passing, jinking runs and immense composure from the tee. The Beziers scrumhalf evaded George Horne easily to fire his try in and set up Raffaele Storti with a cheeky reverse pass for the third. He loses some marks for some early troubles when it came to kicking from the hands but stood out overall with a fine display at 9.

8. Frederico Couto, 6

Couto played all but two minutes of the contest, taken off but quickly brought back into the fold for the injured Cunha. The Portuguese scrum fared well in the second half and Couto marshalled things from the back row.

7. Nicolas Martins, 7

Some solid rucking, fine takes and overall, a good display from the Montpellier flanker. Martins was absolutely the bright spark in the away pack.

6. Andre Cunha, 5

A solid and inoffensive performance before heading off injured at the 50-minute mark. Cunha did enough to deal with the threat of the hosts' pack and ward off most of their many pushover try attempts.

5. Duarte Torgal, 3

Torgal was the man penalised for collapsing the maul leading to Scotland's penalty try – an error like that brings a yellow card and a low rating. Portugal's second row was much improved with the introduction of Madeira's replacement, Agronomia lock Antonio Rebele de Andrade.

4. Jose Madeira, 3

An anonymous performance from the Grenoble man, as he didn't show anything of note and was taken off just after half-time in a game-changing substitution by the visiting coach.

3. Diogo Hasse Ferreira, 4

The tighthead was caught offside on occasion having gotten over-excited at the breakdown amid his teammates' successes. However, the Lobos' front row put up a solid showing all things

2. Luka Begic, 6

Begic shared his front row brethren's proficiency at suppressing most of Scotland's goal line threat for extended periods, with the hosts often forced wide to have any luck. He also managed to sneak in a well-taken try off of the back of a rolling maul but loses a point for occasional inaccuracies at the lineout.

1. David Costa, 5

The loosehead put up a good fight against a strong Scottish pack, showing good line speed and physical presence to stall out the forward play on several occasions and leave Scotland resorting to the backs for their chance creation.

Replacements

16. Abdel da Cunha, 7

17. Pedro Vicente, 7

18. Antonio Prim, 7

The replacement front row came on simultaneously and spent the final 26 minutes pummelling the home scrum. The line speed brought by the starters was replicated against tired legs to dominate the breakdown and win some turnovers late on.

19. Antonio Rebelo de Andrade, 6

Impressive compared to the first half performance at lock, Rebelo looked more physically imposing and threatening to the Scots' pack when introduced not long after half time. With Madeira floundering and Torgal binned for indiscipline, the Agronomia man will have put himself firmly in Mannix's eyes for future tests.

20. Vasco Baptista, 6

A standard replacement performance from Baptista who was moved around by the reintroduction of Frederico Couto mere moments after the Benfica teammates had replaced each other. He came in and played half an hour of solid rugby to close the match out for the Lobos.

21. Antonio Campos, 6

A brief but controversial cameo for Campos as his late disallowed try was a last-minute talking point. The TMO could've called it either way, but the Benfica man made the most of his brief appearance in Marques' place.

22. Hugo Aubry, 6

Twenty minutes in place of Cabral at the end produced little on Aubry's part, save for a crunching hit on Darcy Graham as part of the late Campos incident. A solid display from the Bezier fly-half.

23. Mauel Cardosa Pinto, 5

Cardoso, introduced in place of Lucas Martins just six minutes into the second half, had a similarly quiet display to his forerunner. The Agronomia wing struggled to make his mark on proceedings as most of the visitors' action went down the other wing or through central areas.
