The Englishman, who earned one unofficial cap for the Red Rose in a match against the Barbarians, found himself in the thick of the action late on.

Racing were pressing hard to overturn a narrow 21-17 deficit, surging 80 metres up the field in the dying moments. However, their hopes were dashed when James knocked the ball on.

As the 29-year-old scrambled to ground, an arm from ex-Springbok star Jan Serfontein accidentally collided with James's head. The brutal impact left the Racing player unconscious before he hit the turf.

"I've rarely seen a knockout like that"
Referee Tual Trainini immediately halted the match, and medical teams rushed to the scene. Racing scrum-half Nolann Le Garrec described the chilling aftermath:
"He was unconscious and he convulsed. I've rarely seen a knockout like that."

James was stretchered off to the applause of the crowd and taken straight to hospital for further examination.

“The news is reassuring”
Racing 92 coach Dimitri Szarzewski offered a promising update following the match:
"The news is reassuring. He has regained consciousness and the doctor is rather optimistic. Obviously, it's quite impressive since he was unconscious on the ground for a while. But he should be fine."

While the game ended with Montpellier sealing the victory, the focus remained on James’s recovery. His return to the field may take time, but Racing fans will be relieved to hear that their star is on the mend.
