Ireland fly-half Jack Crowley found himself in hot water following a controversial incident against Argentina, where he was heavily criticised for his dramatic reaction after a tackle from Puma Matias Moroni.

Crowley went down clutching his face, leading to Moroni being sent to the sin bin. Despite the theatrics, Crowley was cleared of requiring an HIA and, to the dismay of some, scored the opening try just minutes later.

Fans were quick to voice their opinions:

  • “No need for Crowley to act like he’s been shot #IREvARG. Ireland lucky as per usual.”
  • “The Argentinian getting punished because Crowley can't catch a ball. That's completely accidental and should be play on.”
  • “Embarrassing from Jack Crowley!”
  • “Crowley with the fine acting skills!”
  • “If Crowley goes down holding his face like that, he should be off with a HIA.”
  • “Impressive dive by Crowley. Worthy of an Oscar at least.”
  • “As the law stands, that's a yellow card. But we need to stamp out these reactions. Crowley goes down, looking for a player to be binned, then 1 minute later he's fine and scoring.”

It's clear that while the card was justified by the letter of the law, Crowley's antics left a sour taste for many, with some calling for greater scrutiny on players’ reactions to tackles.
