NZ Rugby sinks Bledisloe Cup proposal

New Zealand Rugby has reportedly blocked Rugby Australia's motion to stage an annual Bledisloe Cup clash on Anzac Day, citing logistical and financial concerns.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that despite initial enthusiasm from NZR, the concept was ultimately deemed "not viable". RA had hoped to launch the fixture next April, with Western Australia's government backing a Super Rugby Super Round in Perth the same week.
NZR CEO Mark Robinson initially said they were "really open to it," acknowledging Anzac Day's significance. However, after consulting Super Rugby clubs, the players’ association, and commercial partners, the governing body decided against proceeding.

"When you look at the financial model of doing it home and away, it's vastly different to what the Australians proposed," Robinson said. "The reality of that, and what we risk in Super Rugby, in player welfare, and other partnerships, doesn't really stack up."
According to the Herald, opposition from All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson also played a role.
Despite the setback, RA CEO Phil Waugh insisted the idea is worth pursuing: "We think it could be one of the most compelling sporting events on the calendar, uniting our two countries."
