The Vodacom Bulls powered to a bonus-point win against Zebre at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday in a URC match littered with miscues and turnovers.

The Bulls mixed moments of individual brilliance with poor ball security and silly penalties, but in the end they had too much firepower for a spirited but outgunned Zebre outfit that refused to surrender as the hosts scored nine tries for a 63-24 victory in Pretoria.

Sergeal Petersen dotted down for the first of two tries after a magical 50-22 from flyhalf Keagan Johannes gave the Bulls a dangerous attack in the Zebre red zone.  His brace was complemented by tries from scrumhalf Zak Burger, centre duo Harold Foster and David Kriel, wing Stravino Jacobs, hooker Jan-Hendrik Wessels, flanker Marcell Coetzee and replacement flanker Marco van Staden.

Johannes starred with the boot, adding 14 points, while replacement Boeta Chamberlain contributed four points from the tee.

For Zebre, winger Jacopo Trulla and replacement hooker Tommaso Di Bartolomeo dotted down, while flyhalf Giovanni Montemauri carried his form from last week’s loss to the Sharks by adding a try and four points with the boot. Scrumhalf Alessandro Fusco slotted a drop goal before Giacomo Da Re added a second-half conversion.

The Bulls return to EPCR action next week when they travel to France for their round of 16 Challenge Cup clash against Bayonne, while Zebre will be out of action until the URC returns in mid-April after their elimination from the European competition.
