Cheetahs No 9 loaned to MLR club

Cheetahs scrumhalf Ruben de Haas will have an on-loan stint in America’s Major League Rugby this year.
The 26-year-old will represent the New Orleans Gold having previously played for the Austin Gilgronis. His five-month loan period starts on 1 February.
De Haas immigrated with his family to the USA at the age of 10 and has 36 Test caps for his adopted country.
“The Cheetahs are fortunate to have a talented scrumhalf like Ruben de Haas in our team,” said director of rugby Frans Steyn. “Having represented the USA Eagles at the Rugby World Cup and other high-class games, Ruben brings invaluable international experience.
“[Playing MLR] allows Ruben to grow further as a player and benefits the Cheetahs by ensuring he remains at the peak of his game. His experience will be valuable as we take on some of Europe’s strongest teams in the EPCR Challenge Cup and compete in the highly esteemed Currie Cup.”
