Another Springbok Test coming to Cape Town?

Earlier this year the Springboks confirmed a jampacked fixture schedule for 2025, which will include a season opener in June, that is likely to be a warm-up match of sorts against the Barbarians.

The Springboks will then face Italy in the first two Tests of the year on 5 and 12 July, while the third and final match of the Incoming Series is against Georgia at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday, 19 July – only the third match between the sides in history.

The Springboks will begin their Rugby Championship title defence against Australia at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg and the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 16 and 23 August, before travelling to New Zealand for successive Tests against the All Blacks in Auckland (6 September) and Wellington (13 September).

They will return to South Africa for their final home Test of the year against Argentina at Kings Park in Durban on Saturday, 27 September, before the away match against the Pumas a week later at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham in London.

It’s also believed that the Springboks are looking to add at least one more match to their schedule, and that Japan would be the likely opponents.

The last time the Springboks and Japan met each other was in the 2019 World Cup quarter-final, and it will be interesting to see where this 'rematch' would fit into the calendar.

It’s now reported by Sunday newspaper Rapport that the fixture will most likely take place on home soil, with the DHL Stadium in Cape Town expected to be the venue.

Details on ticket sales for all home matches will be announced in due course.
