Why the Bulldogs were justified to cut ties with Addo-Carr

Channel Nine rugby league reporter Danny Weidler believes the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs were left with no choice but to sack winger Josh Addo-Carr.
The 29-year-old failed a roadside drug test in September and subsequently tested positive for cocaine in his second test.
Whilst Addo-Carr has maintained his innocence throughout the whole saga, the inconsistencies in his version of events led the Bulldogs board to ultimately cut ties with the star despite having a year left on his contract.
"The cover up was bad and his interpretation of the events was wrong," Weidler said on SEN 1170 Sportsday.
"You can't (lie) to the General Manager of the football club and think that you can get away with it.
"It's my view that the NRL has gone a little soft on so-called party drugs. It's almost too accepted and the punishments aren't hard enough.
"Addo-Carr's recollection of events to the Bulldogs and to GM Phil Gould was a version of events that didn't happen.
"The cover up is worse than the truth. The Bulldogs didn't act quickly on this because there's a fondness and a regard to everything he has done for the club.
"It's been six weeks since the incident and Addo-Carr was given time to find another club.
"He wasn't able to, nothing had changed, he was given a fair hearing from the board and there wasn't enough in the presentation for the club to want to keep him."
The Dragons are the leading candidate to acquire Josh Addo-Carr for the 2025 season.
