NEWS: Former Springbok tighthead prop Jannie du Plessis has been appointed as Head of Coaching at Monument High School in Johannesburg.

He will be joined by former Monnas alumni Reinhard Gerber who will conclude his duties as coach at a club in Frankfurt, Germany at the end of the month and return to South Africa to take up the position of Head of Rugby.

The former Monnas coach, Tjaart van der Walt, has taken up a coaching role at Helpmekaar High.

Du Plessis, a veteran of 70 test caps, hails from Bethlehem in the Eastern Cape, and made his Test debut with his brother Bismarck on the same day, on July 7, 2007, against Australia in Sydney.

They followed this up by representing South Africa at the World Cup in France (2007), where the team was crowned champions, New Zealand (2011) and England (2015).

Du Plessis won the Currie Cup on numerous occasions with the Cheetahs and Sharks and was a member of the Montpellier side that won the EPCR Challenge Cup in 2016.

Following his stint with Montpellier he made his way back to South Africa where he joined the Lions until his retirement at the end of 2022.

Du Plessis had his first official training session with the senior players on Monday.
