Whilst it was jubilant scenes of celebration for the majority of Allianz Stadium spectators, the travelling French faithful were heartbroken to see their side defeated 26-25 in the final minute of the match. Les Bleus looked to have secured a late victory through Louis Bielle-Biarrey’s 75th minute try, yet Elliot Daly’s last ditch efforts and Fin Smith’s sharpshooting denied France the glory.
Daly exploded off the bench with an immediate impact, as the Saracen crossed over on a hard-line to lift the home spectators into an eruption of cheers. It is a bitter loss for France to take, with their captain Antoine Dupont venting his frustration in the post match press conference. The Stade Toulousain superstar expressed his annoyance, as France squandered golden try-scoring opportunities, with Dupont, Damian Penaud and Peato Mauvaka all spilling the ball with the try line beckoning.
Dupont addressed how England were let off for a trio of tries, that would have taken the game out of sight for Les Bleus.

“Yes, I feel very frustrated. Of course, especially with regard to the first half. We could have scored two, three more tries. We didn’t. We reached seven, seven at the end of the first half, and they did take advantage of the opportunities they had. We could still have one. We could still have to better. We didn’t somehow. Of course, it makes it very frustrating.”
France head coach Fabien Galthie was then asked how he felt, now that Les Bleus cannot win the Grand Slam this year. Galthie was a cool as ever in the press room, and decided to focus on the positive signs his side showed, as they continue to push for the Six Nations title.
“We are an ambitious team. I think we demonstrated this again tonight. What is important is the next steps. What the team has produced tonight was interesting. It was good. Of course, we didn’t win, but shouldn’t really focus on the defeat tonight, but focus maybe on on the highlights, what we did well tonight, instead.”
