The 47-year-old previously worked alongside Cheika at Argentina and is currently part of Eddie Jones' Japan coaching staff.

A coaching CV packed with experience

Before his move to Los Pumas in 2022, Kidwell was a key figure in rugby league coaching, working with the Parramatta Eels, New Zealand, Wests Tigers, and Melbourne Storm. He even took charge of the Kiwis as Head Coach for ten Tests in 2016.

During his time with Melbourne Storm, he was part of the setup that clinched the 2012 NRL Premiership.

A Kiwi league legend

As a player, Kidwell was a powerhouse in rugby league, making over 250 senior appearances across the NRL and Super League. He earned 25 caps for New Zealand and played for South Sydney Rabbitohs, Melbourne Storm, Sydney Roosters, Warrington Wolves, Parramatta Eels, and Adelaide Rams.

He was also part of the Roosters' Premiership-winning squad in 2002 and the Kiwis' 2008 Rugby League World Cup-winning side.

Michael Cheika on Kidwell's arrival

Cheika is delighted to have Kidwell on board, saying:

"It's great to bring in someone with David's experience. He's got a unique perspective on the game that will add value to our setup."

"Having worked with him before, I know what he brings—not just for the players but for the whole coaching staff. He was a tough, successful player, and that mindset will be key for us this season."

Kidwell's take on the move

The Kiwi coach is eager to get stuck in at Welford Road.

"This is a chance to enhance my coaching at a big, successful club that's pushing for more silverware."

"I love winning, and I wouldn't have said yes if I didn't believe in this squad's potential. The Premiership is a tough competition, and Tigers are right in the mix."

Eddie Jones backs the switch

Japan boss Eddie Jones, who knows Leicester well from his time in England, fully supports the move.

"This is a great chance for Dave to learn from Cheik and continue his rugby development."

"You improve as a coach by coaching, and we're grateful to Leicester Tigers for this opportunity."

Antoine Dupont didn't hesitate when naming his toughest opponent so far

Let's dive into why these three legends have earned Dupont's respect and what makes them so hard to beat.

Beauden Barrett – The All Blacks’ Game-Changer

If anyone can make even Dupont sweat, it's Beauden Barrett. New Zealand's speedster isn't just lightning fast—his rugby IQ is next level. Whether he's running the show at fly-half or sweeping in at full-back, Barrett's ability to read the game and create opportunities is unmatched.

With over 100 international caps and two World Rugby Player of the Year awards, Barrett's legacy is already cemented. His breakneck pace, combined with silky offloads, make him a nightmare to defend. Dupont knows better than anyone how dangerous Barrett can be.

Game-changing ability? Through the roof. Usually found ghosting past defenders before anyone knows he's there.
