Gloucester Rugby have pulled off a big signing, bringing in Morgan Nelson, a hooker with serious local ties. Born and bred in Ross-on-Wye, Nelson is a lifelong fan of the Cherry & Whites, having cheered them on from The Shed during his younger years.

His rugby journey began at junior clubs Ledbury and Hereford, while he attended John Kyle High School and Hartpury College, climbing through the Gloucester Rugby Academy ranks. He even shared the field with current Gloucester stars Jack Reeves and Jack Clement.

From Gloucester Academy to Cardiff Met
After his time in the Gloucester Rugby Academy, Nelson ventured to Cardiff Met University. While balancing his studies, he shone in BUCS Super Rugby and the WRU Championship, becoming a key player for the Archers over his four-year stay.

Lighting it up at Cornish Pirates
Nelson's explosive form came to the fore during his stint with Cornish Pirates. Since the 2021/22 season, he has crossed the whitewash an impressive 26 times in 41 appearances! With stats like that, Gloucester fans will be buzzing to see him back in Cherry & White.

A Potential Reunion at Kingsholm
Nelson could be going head-to-head with his former club sooner than expected. Gloucester are set to host Cornish Pirates at Kingsholm in November for the Premiership Rugby Cup, and it promises to be a thrilling contest. Keep an eye out for Nelson—tickets for the clash are already available!

Skivington's Praise
Director of Rugby, George Skivington, is confident in Nelson's abilities. He said:
"Morgan knows the Club well having come through the Academy here and will no doubt settle in well. We know there's plenty of talent in the Championship, and Morgan is hungry to be the next to step up and make a name for himself in the Premiership."

Nelson's Homecoming
Nelson himself is ready for the challenge:
"It's a privilege to be back at Kingsholm. Spending some time in the Academy here when I was a youngster, the dream was always to pull on the Cherry & White at Kingsholm. I feel like I've developed a lot as a player and a person from my time at both Cornish Pirates and Cardiff Met, and I'm ready to make the step up and test myself at the next level. I'm really grateful for the opportunity and I'm looking forward to getting started."
