Statement: George Smith departs Saints with immediate effect

Northampton Saints have confirmed that George Smith has left the club with immediate effect to join French ProD2 side USON Nevers.

The 24-year-old lock joined Saints in the latter stages of the 2023/24 season after making the switch from the NFL International Player Pathway programme in the USA.
"We have agreed to release George from his contract early as he wanted to pursue an opportunity overseas, and we didn't want to stand in his way," said Saints' Director of Rugby, Phil Dowson.
"I'm sure he will have taken a lot from his time at Saints, and hopefully, this next step in his career gives him more opportunities to play regular rugby."
