The 28-year-old lasted just 29 minutes in Saints’ 30-21 victory on Saturday, forced off after a crunching tackle from Bulls captain Elrigh Louw.
“He has fractured his arm, it can vary so nothing concrete on how long that will take,” explained Northampton head coach Sam Vesty. “We are not 100% sure what the outcome of that medical assessment will be.”
Recovery timelines unclear
Furbank was being assessed on Tuesday, with the possibility of surgery looming. The unpredictable nature of fracture recovery times means it’s tough to pin down a return date.
With England's Six Nations opener against defending champions Ireland on 1 February just six and a half weeks away, the clock is ticking for the versatile back to prove his fitness.
A vital cog in England’s machine
Having started three of England’s four autumn internationals, Furbank has become a key figure in Steve Borthwick’s plans. He took over the starting role from Freddie Steward midway through the 2024 Six Nations, bringing a dynamic edge to the backline.
England fans will now anxiously await updates on Furbank's recovery, knowing his absence could leave a gaping hole in their campaign.
