Statement: England and Saracens star handed SIX week ban
12/30/2024 07:15 AM
Saracens lock Hugh Tizard faced the music this week after his dangerous play during a fiery Premiership battle with Newcastle Falcons on November 29.
Tizard, 24, was hauled before an independent disciplinary panel led by James Dingemans, with Becky Essex and Daniel Gore also on the bench. Charged under World Rugby Law 9.20 for dangerous play in a ruck or maul, the towering forward accepted the allegations without protest.
The Incident
The flashpoint? A red card incident in the heat of the action at Kingston Park, leaving Saracens a man down and Tizard's future hanging in the balance.
Verdict Delivered
The panel's ruling? A six-week suspension, keeping Tizard off the field until January 14, 2025. Saracens will have to navigate the festive fixtures without him, but he'll be eligible for selection again just in time for the business end of the season.
What's Next?
Mark McCall will now be forced to shuffle his pack, with Tizard's absence creating opportunities for others to step up during this critical stretch of the campaign.
