Fresh Contract, Fresh Trouble
Just days after inking a new two-year deal with Montpellier, the 29-year-old was apprehended for drunk driving late Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday, December 8. French media outlets have revealed that Haouas's blood alcohol level was significantly above the legal limit of one gram per litre.
Unconscious Behind the Wheel
The drama unfolded in the La Paillade district of Montpellier, where concerned passers-by noticed Haouas unconscious at the wheel of his parked car.
"One of the witnesses even broke the window of the vehicle to check the condition of the French international," a police source told France 3 Occitanie. The incident prompted police intervention, leading to his arrest.
Court Date Confirmed
Released on Monday morning, Haouas is set to appear in court on February 4. The case will proceed under a “prior admission of guilt” process, as confirmed by prosecutors speaking to AFP.
A Troubled History
This isn't Haouas's first brush with controversy. Last year, his pre-arranged move to Clermont Auvergne collapsed after he was handed a one-year prison sentence for assaulting his wife.
For a player who has long struggled to escape off-field issues, this latest incident raises fresh questions about his future in French rugby.
