Scotland's First Minister, John Swinney, described the revelations as "very disappointing, incredibly disappointing" when speaking to journalists on Friday.
The sentencing: A shameful chapter
Hogg, 32, was handed a community payback order, including one year of supervision, after pleading guilty to a single charge of domestic abuse. Over the course of five years, the ex-rugby star shouted, swore, tracked his wife's movements, and sent her alarming and distressing messages.
The sentencing took place at Selkirk Sheriff Court, following his November admission of guilt.
Calls for his MBE to be stripped
SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn didn't hold back, calling for Hogg's MBE, awarded in the 2023 New Year Honours list, to be revoked. When asked about Flynn's stance, Swinney said: "I think that's a reasonable and understandable call."
A message for men
Swinney didn't mince words, condemning Hogg's behavior and emphasizing the need for male accountability. "It's absolutely reprehensible for men to behave badly in any circumstance of life, and one example of that will be domestic abuse," he said.
The First Minister also stressed his responsibility to set an example, urging men to "behave better in our society."
A once-celebrated hero, Hogg's legacy is now overshadowed by his disturbing actions, leaving the rugby community—and the nation—shocked.
