Sam Underhill Injury Update: England Star Leaves Fans Worried After Japan Clash

Bath Rugby could be without England flanker Sam Underhill for one of their biggest games of the season, as Champions Cup heavyweights La Rochelle head to the Recreation Ground in just 11 days.

Speaking on Tuesday, Bath's head of rugby Johann van Graan revealed the club is still in the dark about Underhill's availability.
"Our medical team has been in contact with the English medical team," Van Graan explained.
"That relationship is strong and good between all the nations our players are with. With an injury, it is not as straightforward that it happens and you know straight away.
"We are taking our time. Sam has gone through a scan, and we are determining what the best course of action is. We will know towards the back end of the week whether he can come straight back in, if it's a few weeks out, or potentially longer. Unfortunately, we don't have all the answers right now."
The uncertainty suggests Underhill's immediate return is unlikely, which is a concern for both Bath and England fans. The 27-year-old has endured a torrid time with injuries over the years, including repeated concussions, shoulder problems, and a hip injury that ruled him out of England's 2022 Six Nations campaign. Earlier this season, Underhill was sidelined with a fractured cheekbone, raising further questions about his long-term durability.
Meanwhile, Bath fans may not see Ollie Lawrence or Will Stuart in action this weekend either. With England players required to sit out one of the next three Premiership matches under the RFU's player management agreement, Van Graan is expected to rotate his squad to keep his international stars fresh.
Even without their full arsenal, Bath will look to maintain momentum as they gear up for a crunch European showdown against the reigning champions.
