Springbok and Hollywoodbets Sharks prop Retshegofaditswe 'Ox' Nché, and his brand The Ox Kraal have teamed up with the United Rugby Championship to launch a limited edition Christmas jumper for the festive season.

Known for his iconic phrase "Salads Don't Win Scrums," Nché's jumpers feature the famous slogan. The limited edition jumpers are now available on the URC Online Store, with all proceeds going to support important causes in South Africa including providing school shoes and school bags for children as they prepare for the 2025 school year

Ox Nché shared his excitement about the initiative: "If you don't know what to get your loved ones this festive season, please go grab yourself a 'Salads Don't Win Scrums' Christmas jumper. All proceeds will go towards supporting a great cause."

The phrase “Salads don’t win scrums” was first coined by Nche during a press conference ahead of a match for the Sharks in 2021. Nche made the comment in reference to the importance of strength and power in the scrum. In his statement, he was emphasizing that in rugby, particularly in scrummaging, physicality and proper conditioning were key, and that simply focusing on lighter, “healthier” foods (like salads) wouldn’t necessarily help a player succeed in such a demanding and contact-heavy area of the game.

His remark quickly became memorable due to the bluntness and humor in comparing the need for proper physical training to something as seemingly trivial as salads. Though his comment was made somewhat humorously, it also highlighted his belief in the importance of serious physical preparation for the intense nature of rugby.
