Loughborough Lightning have learned the outcome of Abby Duguid's disciplinary, following her red card against Trailfinders Women.Duguid was dismissed in the 57th minute of Sunday's Premiership Women's Rugby Round 2 clash at Trailfinders Sports Ground, for a dangerous tackle, that was contrary to Law 9.13.

No injury was sustained by the Trailfinders player, and Duguid approached the player to apologise after the match. She also submitted a full apology to the disciplinary panel, in which she stated: 'Following the tackle I became overwhelmed emotionally because I was worried that I had injured the other player and that was never my intention'.

The player accepted the charge and was banned for three weeks, with the possibility of reducing to two if the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP) is completed.

The case was considered on papers on Wednesday evening by an independent disciplinary panel, that was chaired by Sam Hillas KC with panel members Vicky Irwin and Kylie Hutchison.

Matches missed:

  • 19/10/2024 v Sale Sharks
  • 26/10/2024 v Harlequins
  • 10/11/2024 v Exeter Chiefs (subject to completion of CIP)
