England wing Tommy Freeman has given his record of accounts, regarding the controversial try he scored against Scotland. The Scotland coaches were unhappy that the try was grounded, with no obvious angle presenting the ball on the deck, as a pile of Scottish bodies did their best to hold up Freeman’s close range carry.

Freeman was grilled after the match, as to whether he truly believed that his try should have stood.

“The referee awarded it, therefore I grounded it so…” Freeman said, and by all accounts, the Northampton Saints man went a bright shade of red as a smile grew across his face.

“I think, well, as much as the referee saw at the end of the day. He awarded it so that's the end of it and I’m not going to say anything different.”

The England wing double-downed on how his try was rightfully awarded, when the reporting media pulled their focus back to the controversial score, at the expense of Scotland.

“Yes you can (ask me about the try). Referee said I got it down, I got it down.” Freeman added. “I felt like it went on the ground. So yeah, it went on the ground…”

The match official for the Calcutta Cup was Pierre Brousset, and the Frenchman awarded the try without any confering with the TMO. Freeman was happy to have had his score awarded so quickly, as TMO Tual Trainini did not request a second look at the grounding.

“Exactly, so he must have seen it on the ground!” Freeman said, as the media once again pressed the wing for his thoughts upon the score.
