Owen Farrell's time at Racing 92 hasn't exactly gone to plan, and club owner Jacky Lorenzetti hasn't held back in his assessment of the England great's debut season in Paris.
Find your local Greene King and settle in for the 2025 Six Nations!
The 33-year-old made the high-profile switch from Saracens ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, signing a two-year deal with the option of a third. But injuries have plagued his start to life in the Top 14, leaving him unable to make the impact many expected.
Now, Lorenzetti has weighed in, and while his comments aren't quite as ruthless as those aimed at Siya Kolisi last season—when he accused the Springboks captain of "gaining weight, losing shape, and being transparent"—they won't be music to Farrell's ears.
"The speed of a snail going backwards"
Speaking to Midi Olympique, the Racing supremo didn't hold back when discussing Farrell's struggles.
"Owen had an adductor injury when he arrived, which was bothering him considerably. We also made the mistake of putting him on the pitch too early," Lorenzetti said.
"Against the Stormers in the Champions Cup, he was very good. Then the pain came back against Castres, he was weakened and played at the speed of a snail going backwards.
"On the field, we haven't seen the real Farrell. However, day-to-day we can count on an incredible leader, who loves the club and wants to win."
A shock move back to England?
Farrell's struggles in France have sparked speculation that he could cut his time at Racing short. Since Stuart Lancaster's sacking by the Parisians earlier this month, the England centurion has been linked with a shock move to Leicester Tigers—potentially reuniting with George Ford in a blockbuster Premiership switch.

Favourites to replace Gatland:
However, the decision has left many Welsh fans puzzled, as no long-term replacement has been confirmed. So, who is next in line to take on the challenge of reviving Welsh rugby?
Here are five leading candidates for the job.
1. Michael Cheika – Leicester Tigers Head Coach
Cheika is currently leading Leicester Tigers on a one-year deal, which he is not expected to extend beyond this season. That could open the door for Wales to swoop in for the experienced Australian.
With previous head coaching stints at Australia and Argentina, Cheika boasts significant international pedigree. Ironically, he masterminded Argentina's quarter-final victory over Wales at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Cheika is the bookmakers' favourite to replace Gatland. However, if Wales opt for him, they may need an interim coach to bridge the gap until the end of his Leicester tenure—a potential complication, particularly with Wales' summer tour of Japan carrying major implications for World Cup seeding.
2. Simon Easterby – Ireland Head Coach (Interim)
Currently standing in for Andy Farrell as Ireland's head coach while Farrell prepares for the British and Irish Lions tour, Easterby has been part of the Irish coaching setup since 2014. Before that, he gained experience coaching at the Scarlets.
Although this Six Nations marks his first stint as an international head coach, his familiarity with the Welsh game makes him a compelling candidate. The WRU will have the opportunity to directly assess his credentials throughout the tournament before making a move.
Easterby is joint-third favourite with bookmakers and has strong backing from sections of the Welsh fanbase.
