Ospreys sign Fiji captain Waisea Nayacalevu from Sale Sharks

The Ospreys have confirmed that Fiji captain, Waisea Nayacalevu has joined the team from Sale Sharks. Nayacalevu, will join the team as injury cover for Owen Watkin until the end of the 24/25 season.
The 6'4" powerhouse centre brings a plethora of experience to the squad and is set to play a key role, with the Ospreys still in the knockout stages of the EPCR Challenge Cup and a BKT URC playoff spot still on the cards.

A walking highlight reel, Nayacalevu is a destructive ball carrier, while also having a momentum killing hit ready to go off at any moment.
The Fijian made 200 appearances for Stade Français during his 10 years in France, picking up a monumental 82 tries in the process. Nayacalevu also spent time at Toulon before moving to Sale at the beginning of the 24/25 season.
Nayacalevu has more than 40 caps for the Flying Fijians and captained them to their first ever win over England in the 2023 Summer Nations Series. With him as captain, they carried that momentum over to the 2023 Rugby World Cup, making the quarter-finals for the first time since 2007.
Speaking on his move, Nayacalevu said: "It's a real honour to be signing with the Ospreys. There's some world class talent here and I'm looking forward to playing alongside them.
"Stepping into a team where quality experience is combined with exciting potential is ideal for me at this stage of my career. I believe I can contribute heavily to the squad this season, both on the field and off it.
"Having spoken to Mark and watched the Ospreys in recent weeks, I feel the team's style of play can offer me the perfect platform to deliver my best rugby and this played an important role in my decision."
Head Coach, Mark Jones, said: "It's not often a player of Waisea's calibre becomes available in-season. He brings a wealth of experience and leadership credentials with him, which can only be a good thing for our youngsters coming through.
"We feel Waisea can make an instant impact and be a real difference maker for us in Owen's (Watkin) absence, and stands us in good stead in a season where we still have a lot to play for."
