The controversial collision
With Bath trailing 32-31 in the 77th minute, Lawrence made a half-break, only for his England teammate Mitchell to collide with him. Mitchell’s shoulder made contact with Lawrence’s chest, causing their heads to meet. Despite open field ahead, Lawrence went to ground clutching his face.

Yellow for Mitchell, cheers for Lawrence
Referee Anthony Woodthorpe handed Mitchell a yellow card, while Lawrence—seen smiling as Finn Russell lined up the penalty—faced jeers from the Franklin’s Gardens faithful.

No HIA needed
Despite the dramatic reaction, Lawrence avoided a head injury assessment as sideline data deemed the collision insignificant for medical intervention.

Saints snatch victory
Ultimately, Fin Smith's last-gasp penalty sealed a 35-34 win for Northampton, leaving Bath heartbroken.

Lawrence’s apology
“Apologies if my actions today offended anyone,” Lawrence posted on X (formerly Twitter). “On review, I understand the frustration voiced! I’ll be better.”
