Marcus Smith picked up the unwanted accolade of being the first England player to recieve a card in the 2025 Six Nations. England were under an abundance of Irish pressure, with the Men in Green camped on the English 5m line.

Smith was penalised for foul play at the break down, and was subsequently given his 10-minute marching orders for his efforts. In a nice glimpse of Anglo-Irish humour, ‘Dirty Old Town’ by the Pogues then rang out around the Aviva, to put a spotlight on the less than clean actions of the fly half. With a monstrous cheer from the Ireland fans, Smith left the pitch follow his unsportsmanlike actions.

Smith was then shown on the big screens to throw a fist pump of celebration, as England managed to clear their lines from danger. Call it a get out of jail (yellow) card if you like, as the sin bin offence certainly haulted Ireland’s attacking momentum.

One fan wrote: “MarcusSmith falling off tackles again.. He really needs to shore up his defensive of play. Fin Smith in tremendous form and could be hard to ignore if Marcus defends like that.”

A second said: “England’s indiscipline sees MarcusSmith given a yellow card, but moments later he’s cheering an Irish obstruction which allows Slade to clear the lines”

Another said: “Marcus Smith misses the tackle and gets a yellow card in the process, he usually does that at the end of the match and loses the match, he changes tactics to crucify the Irish at the end of the match?”
