In September 2022, Elton Jantjies was suspended from the Springboks squad while in Buenos Aires following allegations of inappropriate behavior with Zeenat Simjee, the team’s dietician.

It was reported that Jantjies spent the night at a separate hotel during the Test series against New Zealand, a departure from usual team protocol. Patrons allegedly overheard them having sexual encounters and later arguing.

He also left without paying his hotel bill, settling the outstanding charges weeks later. Jantjies is married to Iva Ristic, the mother of his three children. The Springboks issued a press release on September 11, 2022, stating:

“The Springboks management are aware of reports regarding Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies and a team dietician. No team protocols were breached, but the individuals are returning to South Africa to attend to these personal reports and to eliminate any distractions to the team's preparations for the Test against Argentina.”

Further Controversies: In May 2022, Jantjies was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after an incident on an Emirates Airline flight from Dubai.

Reports indicated he spent 10 minutes banging on the toilet door until his fists bled. A fellow passenger claimed Jantjies could be heard shouting “Komaan, my skat” (“Come on, my darling”) to an air hostess hiding in the toilet cubicle.

In August 2023, Jantjies was suspended from rugby after testing positive for the prohibited substance Clenbuterol. His suspension was later extended to a four-year ban on January 18, 2024.
