Lawrence Dallaglio Tips 1-Cap Wonder as England's Next Captain

But according to World Cup-winning icon Lawrence Dallaglio, the Saracens star isn't just a long-term prospect—he's the number eight England needs right now.
“A Test start is a must”
Dallaglio has no doubts about Willis' potential. The England legend insists the dynamic back-rower should make his full Test debut on February 1, when England face Ireland in Dublin.
"Tom has been producing not just good performances," says Dallaglio. "He's the best forward in England at the moment by some distance.”
“Dominating the stats”
Backing up his claim, Dallaglio points to Willis' eye-catching stats:
- Top of the charts for defenders beaten (51)
- Leading in metres made and post-contact metres (531)
- A defensive powerhouse, as proven in last weekend’s clash with Bristol.

"Most importantly, he's doing things that affect the outcome of the game. He's got a bit of the old Kieran Read's about him if I'm honest," says Dallaglio.
“Captain material”
"I see him not only as the England number eight to start the Six Nations, but captain of the team eventually," Dallaglio adds. "And the sooner the better, in my opinion.
"You could be bold and brave and give him the captaincy now. But that would probably be a bit too bold for Steve. Let's be honest, Jamie George was given it four years later than he should have been."
