England rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson has shared his thoughts on the three fly-halves in the running for the number 10 shirt during the 2025 Six Nations.

Wilkinson, celebrated for his World Cup-winning heroics in 2003 and now a prominent coach and speaker, offered his expert insights during ITV's coverage.
#1. George Ford – The Man Who's Still Got It
Ford, who debuted professionally at just 16, has had a stellar career, winning two Six Nations titles and starting in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final. Recently, he was named in Steve Borthwick's squad for the 2024 Six Nations.
Wilkinson commented, “Ford still has so much to offer. He has this deep understanding of the game that we haven’t seen fully expressed in a while, mainly because the team hasn't quite clicked. But at the World Cup, we saw his immense courage and skills again.”
#2. Marcus Smith – The Energiser Bunny of Fly-Halves
Smith made his Premiership debut at 18, and his dazzling performances quickly earned him an England call-up. He also featured for the British & Irish Lions in 2021 and represented England at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Wilkinson said, “We all know his skillset and how much he can energise the team. Marcus has the talent to shape the new direction for England. He must now lead that fly-half spot.”

Having represented England U20s, Smith's rapid rise with Northampton Saints has earned him a place in the England squad for the 2023 and 2024 Six Nations.
