A first-half flurry saw the Warriors ease to a bonus point victory over the travelling Johannesburg Lions 42-0.

Having huffed and puffed, the Warriors finally blew a gap through a resolute Lions defence as Nathan McBeth picked up and dotted down from a ruck just off the line with Adam Hastings adding the extras.

As the tourists struggled to make entries into the hosts’ half, hampered by inaccuracy and the prevailing winds, so too did they sweat under the pressure applied by the quick rucks, winger Jamie Dobie dotting down before Hastings made it 14-0.

Glasgow came agonisingly close to a third as the Lions put in an excellent covering tackle to hold the ball up after it made its way through the hands.

However Glasgow would not be denied minutes later as Dobie bobbed and weaved his way to the try line to put the side 21-0 up.

Electric with ball in hand, George Horne secured the bonus point as the Warriors chained offloads to send the Lions defence into the disarray. The effort also making Horne the club’s record try-scorer.

With the referee yet to whistle for the break, Hasting would add a further seven points to almost take the game out of reach for the Lions.

Adding insult to injury, Grant Stewart helped put Franco Smith’s players 42-0 ahead as Hastings continued his perfect night from the tee.

The second-half lacked the freneticism of the first as the home side looked to shut up shop for the night.

Victory tonight sees the Warriors leapfrog the Pretoria Bulls into second as they switch their attention to hosting Leicester Tigers in the Champions Cup next week.
