Willis, who is ineligible for England selection due to playing for Toulouse in the Top 14, last represented his country during the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

While the image was clearly a joke, it reignited the debate around the RFU’s “outdated” selection policy, with many fans calling for the rules to be relaxed to allow the flanker's return.

One fan on Facebook expressed their frustration: “Piss take from Jack but this upsets me hahaha. Starts for and even captains (when Dupont is away) the best club side in the world, Toulouse. Should have over 50 caps for England by now.”

Another shared their view: “Fantastic player missing from England. Would easily be straight in the lineup. It would be great to see him play alongside his brother Tom, who is in phenomenal form, and Ben Earl. That would be a terrific back row in my opinion.”

However, not all fans were sympathetic: “Yes, a fantastic player no doubt about it, but I look at it this way. He was allowed to go to France after Wasps went tits up but could've come back to any club he wanted in the Premiership to add to his cap tally. He chose to stay earning the coin in France (his choice). We have a good crop of back rows who decided not to chase the money. If we allow these players based in France to play for England, it won't be long before more players look to go, and our Premiership will struggle even more.”

The conversation ended with another fan demanding change: “Absolute travesty he's not playing for England. We need a change at the top immediately!”

The debate continues, with some fans dreaming of a back-row pairing of Jack and Tom Willis, alongside Ben Earl, as one summed up perfectly: “Him and Tom should be our 8 and 7. Something so wrong with our systems that we overlook one and let the other get away.”

Willis might be dominating in France, but the calls for his return to England aren't fading anytime soon.
