Former Italy head coach Kieran Crowley has revealed he held talks with Saracens star Alex Lozowski ahead of the 2022 Six Nations about a potential switch of allegiance. The versatile back, however, decided to stay loyal to England.

At 31 years old, Lozowski has five England caps to his name, but his last appearance came way back in 2018. With an Italian grandparent making him eligible for the Azzurri, the door has remained open.

But could things be different now? Italy's impressive displays in the 2025 Six Nations might just tempt Lozowski to reconsider. His ability to cover multiple positions would be a major boost for Gonzalo Quesada's squad as they look to continue their resurgence.

From Chelsea's academy to rugby stardom

Lozowski's sporting path could have gone in a completely different direction. As a teenager, he was part of Chelsea FC's academy before switching his focus to rugby at 16. After completing his A-levels, he joined Leeds Carnegie Academyand later secured an Economics degree from Leeds University.

His professional career took off at Wasps, where he spent two seasons before making the move to Saracens. He wasted no time making an impact, crossing for four tries in his first five Premiership games.

A crucial figure in Saracens' domestic and European dominance, Lozowski's form earned him an England call-up for the 2017 tour of Argentina. He featured in five internationals but never managed to nail down a regular spot.

Italy calling?

After a season-long loan spell at Montpellier in 2020, Lozowski returned to Saracens in 2021 and hit the ground running – kicking off the campaign with a Player of the Match display against Bristol.

Despite being recalled to the England squad twice under Steve Borthwick, he's yet to add to his cap tally. With the 2027 Rugby World Cup just two years away, Lozowski faces a major decision – stick with England and hope for a lifeline, or finally embrace Italy and play a key role in their exciting rebuild?

Alun Wyn Jones and Owen Farrell included on list of worst British & Irish Lions

The British & Irish Lions is the pinnacle of a player’s career – a chance to prove yourself against the very best. But not everyone rises to the occasion.

While some have cemented their legacies in red jerseys, others have left fans wondering how they even made the squad.

From unfortunate injuries to underwhelming performances, we take a look at some of the worst Lions players across different tours, with big names like Owen Farrell and Alun Wyn Jones making the cut.

2021 tour: Owen Farrell – The forgotten playmaker

Owen Farrell, one of the most recognisable and influential players in modern rugby, endured a tour to forget in South Africa. Despite his vast experience and reputation as a leader, Farrell was named by SA Rugby Mag as the worst-performing Lion on the tour.

Initially expected to play a key role, he started three games and featured off the bench in the first two Tests.

However, as the series decider loomed, head coach Warren Gatland made a brutal call – dropping Farrell from the matchday 23 entirely. It was a stark fall from grace for a player who was once considered indispensable.
