Former England rugby international Brian Moore has sent a message of support to Scott Hastings after his wife, Jenny, was reported missing.

Hastings confirmed that Jenny is feared dead after disappearing while wild swimming in the Firth of Forth. She was last seen in Wardie Bay, Edinburgh, on Tuesday afternoon, with emergency services called shortly before 15:00.

In a statement, the Hastings family revealed Jenny had “struggled with her mental health for a number of years”. They added: “We know that you all care for us deeply, and as soon as we hear any update from the police, we will advise you accordingly.”

HM Coastguard, lifeboats, and helicopters were deployed in the search, but efforts were stood down on Tuesday evening with no trace of Jenny found. Police are treating the case as a “high-risk missing person incident.”

The family said they are “absolutely heartbroken” and asked for privacy, adding: “Jenny leaves a gaping hole in all our hearts. We hope she is returned to us safely so we can celebrate her remarkable life.”

Moore, who played alongside Hastings on British and Irish Lions tours, took to social media on Thursday to share his condolences, writing: “This is so painfully sad for all concerned. Words are simply inadequate on occasions like this.”
