Pau came out 24-15 victors at Rodney Parade against a mistake ridden Dragon’s side. The first half was a nervy yet messy opening fourty minutes for both sides with the score sat at 8-9 in favour of the visitors after three penalties for the visitors from Axel Desperes and an Aaron Wainwright try coupled with a Lloyd Evans penalty bringing the hosts to within a point.
Pau showed their gulf in class in the second fourty with a further fifteen points through tries from Clement Monidant and Dan Jooste with Desperes adding a penalty and conversion to seal out the game.

Section Paloise player ratings-
1.Remi Seneca-6
Seneca was at the forefront of a powerful scrum for the French side which pegged their hosts back at times but also won them vital turnovers at others. Around the field Seneca was robust both in defence and attack and displayed an impressive performance.
2.Romain Ruffenach-6
The visiting pack fronted up really well against their opposition and Ruffenach was much a part to play in that. Lineout ball was as accurate as you could ask for with 100% lineout success before he came off.
3.Jon Zabala Arrieta-6
Similar to his prop partner Zabala Arrieta was a brute at set piece which forced turnovers off their Welsh opposition which let the visitors control the game for parts. Another solid front row performance not much more to ask from Zabala Arrieta.
4.Remi Picquette-6
It was not exactly a headline-grabbing performance from the former La Rochelle lock but it was not one that the travelling faithful could complain about. He never went above and beyond the call of duty instead just doing his basics and what you would ask for from a lock.
5.Jimi Maximin-5
Again similar to his second-row compatriot, the Frenchman never really stepped out of what was expected to him. At the set piece he was strong
6.Mehdi Tlili-5
The young French flanker only lasted 30 minutes before coming off with what looked like a shoulder Injury. The twenty year old was part of a tough up front first half but never managed to impact the game in a major way.
7.Hugo Auradou-6
The 21-year old found joy in Newport with a decent performance at Rodney Parade. Looking lively at lineout time and being all round industrious for his side Auradou gave a really good account of himself against an upfront Dragons side in attack.
8.Thibaut Hamonou-5
A silly yellow card in the first two minutes left Hamonou giving his teamates arguably the most difficult task they could’ve asked for in the opening stages and never really made up for it when he returned. Shy of action in attack and nothing notable in defence left much to be desired for the 24-year old.
9.Dan Robson-7
For someone of Robson’s experience tonight he showed just that. Leading in attack and marshalling his players around the pitch. Coped brilliantly under the Dragons kick off which he was a constant target of an picked up a player of the match for his efforts.
10.Axel Desperes-8
Desperes ran the show from flyhalf and put on a spectacullar performance. Making five of his six kicks in the match, he fed off the Dragon’s shocking discipline to notch up 14 points for himself. Set up Mondinat’s try with some great decision making and was wrongfully robbed of POTM in my opinion.
11.Gregoire Arfeuil-6
Knocked the ball over the line for a simple try right on half time which would’ve put the game further past the Dragons even before the second half had began. Apart from the in attack chances were few and far between with the ball staying shy of Arfeuli’s wing.
12.Fabien Brau-Boirie-6
Popped up a few times in the midfield and ran some good lines which left the hosts defence second-guessing and overall solid in defence very rarely letting his opposite number get past.
13.Eliott Roudil (C)-5
A quiet performance from the visitor’s skipper whether it was attack or defence there were no real key moments which impacted the game. Never did anything major to hurt his team but also lacked drive to make an impact in a positive way.
14.Theo Attissogbe-5
Many Dragon’s fans and welsh rugby fans were intrigued to see what the twenty-year old Frenchman could do but in termsof action he looked nowhere near it and picked up a yellow card to add to his dissapointing performance.
15. Clement Mondinat-7
Picked up Section Paloise’s first try of the night with a lovely line off Seperes’ shoulder and never really put a foot wrong all night. He looked dynamic in attack looking for the ball and contributing with a few cameos in the midfield and was solid in defence.
Replacements:
16.Dan Jooste-7
17.Daniel Bibi Biziwu-6
18.Harry Williams-6
19.Victoir Templier-6
20.Loic Credoz-5
21.Thomas Souverbie-6
22.Quentin Valentino-5
23.Jack Maddocks-5
