CJ Stander on if he's supporting Ireland or the Springboks on Saturday

Ireland made it two wins from two at this year’s Rugby World Cup on Saturday night with a 59-16 win over Tonga in Nantes.

The Tongans were always going to be a step up from Romania in the opening round, but Andy Farrell’s side stayed professional throughout, and got the job done, as we build to the small matter of Ireland vs South Africa next weekend.

The Boks put in an impressive showing themselves the weekend, smashing Romania 76-0 to keep their own one hundred percent record in the competition going.

One man who knows all about both South African and Irish Rugby, is a certain CJ Stander, having been born and bred in the former, before going on to carve out a 51-cap Test career with the latter.

And he feels like Ireland won’t fear the world champions this weekend…

"They have no psychological issues with the Boks as they have beaten them before," he told The Sunday Times.

“You just have to stop them dead on the gainline at that first collision. Otherwise, they gain momentum. Force them to kick and you know you've made them think."

But the big question is – who will Stander be supporting this weekend?

"I always tell people I can't change where I was born but if Ireland play the Springboks, I'm an Irishman," Stander said.

"I get a lot of big glares when I say that to people here but I can take it."
