Harlequins centre Oscar Beard believes his side will "carry the hurt" from last year’s 29-28 loss to Gloucester at Kingsholm into Friday nights rematch.

The west London side thought they had won it with just a couple of minutes on the clock in 2023 when Luke Northmore intercepted the ball to go the length but were brought back for a high tackle from Quins replacement Jarrod Evans.

Gloucester would then kick to the corner and eventually went over through Jamal Ford-Robinson to secure the win.

"Last year was last year and it's a completely different challenge this year and they are in completely different form," said the England A international.

"However we still carry that hurt from that game.

"Dommers (Alex Dombrandt) has spoken to us about it and the coaches too so it's definitely something we want to put right and use as motivation for us.

"I believe, being a bit biassed as I'm at Quins, that we should've got a result that day, so we will for sure carry that hurt into this weekend."

However despite the bad memories at Kingsholm, Beard still knows the importance of Friday's fixture.

"It's definitely a big one, we need results, we are well aware of that but we are also aware it's a long season and the table is tight so a lot can change fairly quickly.

"As long as we control the controllables, put everything into our prep for this week and play our game model, play the Quins way, then hopefully we can go there and get a result."

The Cherry and Whites are known for their raucous home atmosphere, support that has helped them produce a stunning turnaround this season after a poor domestic campaign last year.

And it's that very atmosphere that Beard is looking forward to the most on Friday evening, along with the speedy track that benefits players like himself.

"I can’t wait, I love playing at the Shed, the atmosphere and it's quick which suits both teams.

"Hopefully we can get the upper hand and build some momentum from last week and kick on."
