The 30-year-old lock, a fixture for Saracens and England, has been promoted to lead the team in this year's Six Nations, taking over from Saracens teammate Jamie George.
The decision comes as no surprise – Itoje's leadership has already been tested, having taken the reins at Saracens this season following Owen Farrell's departure. And let's not forget, back in 2014, he captained England's age-grade side to a world title.
"I'm at a point in my career where I feel ready to give my all to serve the team and the fans with the captaincy, and also produce my best on the field," said Itoje, reflecting on his new challenge.
