Bulls get another red card reprieve

The Vodacom Bulls have had a red card chalked off for the second week in a row after Johan Grobbelaar’s sending off was rescinded.

According to a report by Rugby365.com, a Vodacom URC disciplinary panel has rescinded the red card issued to Grobbelaar for a dangerous tackle in last Friday’s clash between the Bulls and Scarlets in Llanelli.

Grobbelaar, who came off the bench in the second half, was shown red after referee Federico Vedovelli determined from a TMO review that he had made dangerous head-on-head contact with Scarlets’ South African hooker Marnus van der Merwe in the 67th minute of the match.

Scarlets went on to score a try in the 71st minute to snatch a 23-22 victory.

A formal announcement from the URC will be made later in the week, but Grobbelaar is reportedly available for the Bulls’ third and final tour match against Benetton in Treviso.

This is the second time in two weeks that the Bulls have had a red card to one of their players rescinded, after David Kriel’s sending off against Ospreys in Swansea was chalked off.
