Boks get overseas boost for Wales duel

The world champion Springboks have reportedly found a loophole to select one of their English-based players against Wales at Twickenham next week.

According to an article on Planet Rugby, Rassie Erasmus could pick inside centre Andre Esterhuizen for South Africa’s opening Test of 2024 on Saturday, 22 June in London.

Although no English or French-based players were expected to feature due to the match being outside the international window, Planet Rugby reports that Esterhuizen may be eligible as he is set to re-join South African franchise the Sharks next season, enhancing Rassie Erasmus’ options.

Esterhuizen is currently part of a 35-man Bok training camp assembled in Pretoria.

Additionally, this opportunity might influence the eight-game ban of Jasper Wiese, potentially allowing the Japan-bound loose forward to count the Wales and Portugal matches towards his suspension, thereby returning to play sooner than expected.
