Pieter-Steph du Toit is upbeat about making a swift recovery from shoulder surgery and firing on all cylinders for the Springboks in 2025.

The two-time World Cup winner underwent a complex procedure last week, as confirmed by Toyota Verblitz’s chief Steve Hansen.

Hansen, speaking to Sport Nation's Beaver & Guy, expressed disappointment at Du Toit's absence: "Big Piet is not here at the moment; he hurt his shoulder in the November Tests.

"He could be out for the whole season, so it's a bit disappointing."

The 32-year-old forward, however, is focused on his rehabilitation, which is expected to take four to six months.

"It would obviously be incredible to get well as quickly as possible and get on the field," Du Toit was quoted by Rapport.

According to the news outlet, the 2025 World Player of the Year is likely to return to action by the end of May, giving him enough time to prepare for the Springboks' first Test against Italy on 5 July.

While cleared for national duty, Du Toit's match fitness and conditioning could still be concerns after months of inactivity.

Reflecting on the praise he received from Hansen, the powerful Bok affectionately known as the 'Malmesbury Missile' said, "Of course it's nice to receive recognition and for the hard work to finally bear fruit."
