URC Week 11: Two South African derbies – Dates, times, venues!
02/14/2025 04:04 AM
The eleventh instalment of this season’s United Rugby Championship (URC) involves another all-South African showdown.
Last weekend saw the Bulls beat the Stormers 33-32 in a nine-try thriller, while Sharks pipped Cardiff 42-22 the week before.
Bulls and Sharks face each other this weekend in a top-of-the-table showdown; the latter lies six points behind the Pretoria outfit, placed third and fourth.
That won't be the URC's only South Africa derby in Gauteng as the Lions, positioned thirteenth, get ready to host an underperforming tenth-placed Stormers team.
Details for upcoming fixtures
Saturday, February 15
- Lions vs Stormers (14:30, Emirates Airlines Park)
- Bulls vs Sharks (17:00, Loftus Versfeld)
URC boss talks on SA impact
URC chief Martin Anayi has spoken volumes of South African clubs financial impact, saying, "[They have] been tremendously successful in terms of performance and attendance, as well as financially and commercially,
"Pretty much anybody you speak to in the league will say they have raised the standard of the competition on and off the field and they will continue to do that,
"It's a game changer. It's millions, more than half our revenue comes from South Africa via television and sponsorship,
"They are also providing more value to EPCR, via Investec's sponsorship of the Champions Cup. It is a huge part of the rugby economy for Europe."
