Stormers too good for tame Lions

The Stormers outmuscled the Lions to secure a crucial 29-10 bonus point victory at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Stormers came into this clash on the back of a string of poor performance across all competitions and in need of a season-saving triumph.
And John Dobson’s men didn’t disappoint. The hosts outscored their opponents five tries to two, although it must be said that the Stormers’ cause was hugely helped by the Lions being down to 14 men for much of the contest.
And the red card in question came about after Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu was high tackled by Erich Cronje, whose his midfield partner Marius Louw only made matters worse by coming in as the secondary tackler on the star playmaker.
Be that as it may, this was a first half where the lows outweighed the highs, but tries by Joseph Dweba (two) and Suleiman Hartzenberg gave the hosts the upper-hand with a 15-point advantage at the midway mark.
The Lions mounted a comeback of sort, but with a man down disadvantage, they were always up against it and unfortunately just could not turn things around completely.
Springbok Edwill van der Merwe scored a sensational individualistic try soon after the restart, but it was immediately cancelled out by another touchdown for the Stormers, this time by speedster Leolin Zas.
There was a dominant Lions period after that, but the Stormers simply refused to relinquished their firm hold on proceedings.
There would be two more tries scored, one either way, but in the end the damage was done with the Stormers comfortably seeing out the match.
