Not many people are aware of the fact that this top Springboks star has been carrying an injury.

Springboks star and World Rugby Player of the Year, Pieter-Steph du Toit will be seeing a specialist for an ongoing shoulder injury.

Thereafter, pending the outcome of his assessment with the specialist they will determine if he needs to undergo surgery or not.

SPRINGBOKS TOP STAR TO SEE SPECIALIST

Du Toit confirmed that he will be seeing a specialist on Wednesday.

"I am seeing a specialist on Wednesday," du Toit told Rugby365.

So, It turns out that the ‘shoulder niggle’ he was sent home for may be more serious than it seemed initially. The World Rugby Player of the Year was sent home a few days before the Springboks final test of the year against Wales.

Furthermore, du Toit has hinted at the possibility of surgery.

"We will make a call on what is going to happen in the next few days," he said about the nature of the treatment – not ruling out the possibility of surgery,” du Toit added.

DU TOIT MAKES SA RUGBY HISTORY

Du Toit has become the first SA Rugby player to win the Rugby Player of the Year award twice.

Therefore, he will go down in Springboks history as one of the all-time greats.

He joins the likes of Schalk Burger and Bryan Habana as South African players who have won this prestigious rugby award. Now, following a monumental year for du Toit and the Boks, he gets some time to heal and recover. Hopefully, it is nothing to serious.

Stay tuned to The South African as we reveal the latest updates on du Toits shoulder.
