Savea set for shock Super Rugby move

All Blacks vice-captain Ardie Savea is on the verge of completing a bombshell move away from the Hurricanes, according to reports in New Zealand.

Savea, who is currently with the All Blacks in the USA for the one-off Test against Fiji, is in talks with New Zealand Rugby over a contract extension to the 2027 World Cup.

According to the New Zealand Herald, discussions have included which Super Rugby team Savea will represent, as he reportedly has a clause that allows him to move from the Hurricanes to another team in the competition.

The 30-year-old spent a short sabbatical with Kobe Steelers in Japan and was expected to re-join the Hurricanes, who he has represented since 2013.

However, there has been talk this week that Savea could be on the verge of a shock move to Moana Pasifika, with an official announcement expected with the All Blacks return from the States.

The Herald has reported that Savea is “likely” to sign for the Auckland-based team, which would see him link up with his brother Julian, who played 54 Tests for New Zealand.

Securing Savea’s services would be a huge boost for the Tana Umaga-coached Moana Pasifika, who finished second-last this year with four wins from 14 games.
