Flyhalf Handre Pollard was perfect off the tee as Leicester Tigers jogged in eight tries to hammer the Sharks in the Investec Champions Cup match at Welford Road on Saturday.

The 80-Test Springbok was named man of the match, converting all six of his shots at goal for 12 points in 66 minutes of action before being replaced by Jamie Shillcock. Pollard barely broke a sweat as Leicester dominated the Sharks in the collisions, at the breakdown and in the kicking game to record a 56-17 bonus-point victory.

Leicester streaked to a 35-10 half-time lead on the back of five tries – two of which were maul tries scored by Argentine Test centurion Julian Montoya – all converted by Pollard, while the Sharks replied with a Manu Tshituka try and five points from the boot of Siya Masuku.

The hosts added three more tries after the restart – through scrumhalf Jack van Poortvliet, and replacement forwards Charlie Clare and Emeka Ilione – while the Sharks’ only points came from an Ethan Hooker try converted by Masuku.

Next up, the Sharks head back to Durban to host the Vodacom Bulls as the URC resumes, both teams licking their wounds after heavy losses in round 2 of the Champions Cup.
