Nick Mallett has suggested Rassie Erasmus will quit as head coach of the Springboks if he successfully guides them to an unprecedented World Cup three-peat in 2027.
Former Bok boss Mallett shared his concern on the latest episode of RugbyPass' Boks Office, while praising the two-time World Cup-winning Erasmus' evolution as a tactician.
"The worrying thing is what will happen when he goes," said Mallett, who dismissed the possibility of Erasmus being fired as Bok coach.
"But I don't think he has to worry about the Sword of Damocles being anywhere near him."
According to Mallett, Erasmus' success stems from diverse coaching experiences. "He was successful with Free State, won the Currie Cup, got to the Super Rugby final with Western Province, and succeeded at Munster," he said.

Mallett highlighted Erasmus' shift from technical brilliance to refined emotional IP. "Initially, his technical ability stood out, but now his emotional intelligence has developed since he's entered his 50s."
Erasmus' ability to manage different personalities has also impressed Mallett. "His ability to handle a Makazole Mapimpi alongside a Pieter-Steph du Toit or Duane Vermeulen is extraordinary," he said.
"He's statistically driven but caring, which is an unusual combination," he added. "He's honest with players, always presenting stats – if you're not playing, he'll show you why."
