Springbok fullback Quan Horn returns for the Lions as part of a 26-man group that has travelled to the south of France to face Montpellier at GGL Stadium in the EPCR Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Horn, who has been sidelined with an unspecified injury since the end of November, is in line to run out against the French giants in round 3 of the second-tier European club competition.

He is joined in the travelling squad by exciting outside back Kelly Mpeku, who makes his debut tour for the Pride.

However, players not considered due to injury are winger Rabz Maxwane, lock Reinhard Nothnagel, utility forward Sibabalo Qoma and centre Henco van Wyk, along with flanker Ruan Venter, flyhalf Kade Wolhuter, hookers Morne Brandon and Franco Marais, who will be available from next week.

The Lions return to action following a two-week break, after having lost to the Stormers at Cape Town Stadium in round 9 of the Vodacom URC before the close of 2024.

In the Challenge Cup, Ivan van Rooyen's charges went down to Ospreys in Swansea but bounced back with a six-try win at Ellis Park against Pau.

That five-point haul left the Lions level with the Dragons and within striking range of the two French clubs above them, with a win against Montpellier or the Dragons at home next week likely enough to book a spot in the round of 16.
